Children of Divorce: A Group Program in Community Welfare Centers

Abstract

|
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of children of divorce.
Method: An intervention program for children of divorce was carried out with 23 participants in six different community welfare centers. The researchers used Corbin and Strauss’s constant comparison method to analyze recordings of the programs and of parents’ counselling sessions.
Results: Qualitative analysis yielded 11 factors and 26 concepts within the following five categories: “experiences in the process of parental divorce”; “responses to and recognition of parental divorce”; “difficulties due to parental divorce”; “relationship with both parents after divorce”; and “responses to family reconstruction.”
Conclusions: The research yielded practical strategies for intervention programs, as well as for policies regarding children of divorce.
